Show notes

Todd and Kelly dive into a provocative Harvard Business Review article exploring how AI-powered commerce agents in China are already making purchasing decisions on behalf of consumers — and what that means for the entire marketing industry.

Todd argues that these agents operate purely on algorithms, structured data, and utility signals, bypassing brand affinity and emotional connection entirely.

Kelly pushes back, insisting that human preferences, emotional buying behavior, and brand loyalty still play a critical role — especially in US markets where consumers aren't ready to hand over full purchasing autonomy to a machine.

The two debate whether performance marketing, attribution models, and traditional advertising funnels can survive in a world where the "customer" is an algorithm, not a person.

They explore Google's Zero Moment of Truth framework, draw parallels to self-driving cars, and land on a shared conclusion: upstream strategic thinking and creative problem-solving will be more valuable than ever for marketing leaders navigating this shift.

The complete conversation, in order. 2,137 words.

[00:00:00] Amplafy Media: Hey y'all. In this video I wanna show you a quick and easy way that I was able to generate and create some leads, essentially from scratch and, uh, utilizing a few AI agents. And if you don't know who I am, my name is Hector Sania. Esteban, and I've spent most of the last decade trying to figure out how to scale and create more media and content for businesses.

[00:00:18] Amplafy Media: And that led me to figuring out how to leverage and utilize AI for businesses. And this is what that video is about. And so there is a big challenge for a lot of businesses in terms of finding the right types of leads or the right types of prospects.

[00:00:32] Amplafy Media: There can, we can end up spending so much time going in and digging through, searching through different things, uh, looking up different websites, finding different emails, and it can really take a lot of time. And, and the challenge is, is it because it takes so much time, it ends up being not worth it. And what's really cool is that today with ai, the tools are not going to do your whole job for you, and they're not going to be able to necessarily close deals for you yet.

[00:00:59] Amplafy Media: But they can go out there and they can be great scouts, they can be great research assistants, they can be great synthesizers of information. So that way, just like. The, you know, just like high, high level leaders in organizations, they get briefs, they get things brought to them, and they're able to make decisions because that's what they're, that's what they're best at, is being able to utilize their discernment, create and, and, and innovate off of what, what they see in front of them.

[00:01:24] Amplafy Media: And so. That's really what this allows you to do. Um, but I wanna show you just how and, and what I, I did, because I think that seeing the use cases is going to spark some ideas for you. And this also helps me to know, um, further what, uh, what else might be beneficial as well. And so I built these agents here in Notion, and there's a lot of different places that you can build them.

[00:01:47] Amplafy Media: Um, a lot of them work in, in similar capacities. I like Notion because you can create things within a system that they can now create different pages and documents. And resources and everything and sort of work together in an ecosystem. And so that's one of the benefits here. And um, and so the end goal, right, was how I wanted to find people that would, uh, be ideal prospects, right?

[00:02:12] Amplafy Media: I wanted to do that, but I hate having to research things manually and look up stuff and. And find all of the information and, you know, make decisions about, hmm, is this a good lead or not. And so what we did is we essentially did all of that here with an agent. And so you'll see at the end of it, we've got our prospects, we've got their name, we've got their LinkedIn, um, and then we've also got the company.

[00:02:34] Amplafy Media: And then I'm able to go through, and at this point I'm sort of seeing are they a good. You know, good enough fit. Uh, and then we have some other agents that can actually do the outreach and, and send the emails to them. But for right now, this particular sequence is just finding good people and good prospects for me.

[00:02:51] Amplafy Media: And so the way that it works is we've got this, um, this database of companies in here. And so if I go through and I, um. Add people to this database, what you'll see is that we can actually get, um, all of this process to start happening. So let's jump over here and let's go into our Gemini. And this is what we use for sort of outside research and I sort of stitch these together this way.

[00:03:17] Amplafy Media: Um, so let's just say, give me five more companie. Um, same table because you'll see here that I put it in the table that can easily be formatted, um, to throw into notion there. And so we've got the company name, we've got their industry, their website, and then some tags on there as well. So I'm gonna copy this over here, and then we're gonna go back into our Notion database, and I'm gonna add those right in here.

[00:03:44] Amplafy Media: And so I'm gonna drop those in there and you'll see here that, uh, we'll go ahead and delete that because that's a blank one. But we've got this company, we've got this company, we've got this company. And automatically what happens is our company researcher goes to, um, they go to work, right? It goes to work.

[00:04:01] Amplafy Media: And you'll see in here that we've got these, these, uh. These processes rolling and it'll sort of tell you what's happening. And so it's going through right now and it's researching the company. It's found 17 different websites. It's designed, uh, you know, the instructions and we can look into the instructions in a little bit.

[00:04:20] Amplafy Media: Uh, but it's designed to go through and find who the leadership is, find who the, the leaders of the company are. It looks like it even found a, um, a podcast that they were on. But all of these are sort of designed to do that and. You'll see here that afterwards it'll actually go through and it'll actually create some people.

[00:04:38] Amplafy Media: So you'll see here it went through and it created Ryan Williams and Alan Smith. And these are people who, um, these are people who are, are the leadership of the companies. And you'll see here that in our CRM, it created a little. You know, spot here in our CRM in our people. So now we've got these down here.

[00:04:57] Amplafy Media: You'll see they're populating in here even more. And what's really great about them is that if I click on one, not only do I get just their name, but it also went through it, found their title, it grabbed their LinkedIn, it grabbed their contact information. Everything is in there. Um, for us to be able to again, go through and start to, uh.

[00:05:21] Amplafy Media: Prospect with them. Right. And so you'll see what's starting to populate is also these ratings as well, because one of the other things that we did is we went through and we created, uh, what we call an ICP finder. Because what you you'll find is that, yes, we have lots of leads, and now we can do this with lots of people. Which ones are going to be the right one?

[00:05:39] Amplafy Media: And this ICP finder, just to give you a little sneak peek at what it's designed to do is it will actually go through and decide and figure out if this company fits our ICP and it'll, you know, it knows who it is that we're looking for. It knows what types of companies we work with. It knows all of this stuff to be able to determine whether or not it's the right type of, of, of fit.

[00:06:02] Amplafy Media: And so you can see here, we can actually sort and so let's actually go through and sort. By the ratings. And so now we've got our top. Our top prospects here, right? Are, are sorted this way and now we can go through and, and send them through our, our sales process. And so again, all we did is we ran a quick, we ran a quick, uh, search here in Gemini to be able to grab, I love using Gemini notion is great for, uh, web search as well.

[00:06:30] Amplafy Media: Uh, but I love using Gemini just 'cause it's tapped into Google's search sort of capabilities. And so we grabbed all of the information from there and then what we did is we plugged that into our. Our companies are, you know, our, our database of companies. And then that kicked off everything. So now we've got the companies.

[00:06:49] Amplafy Media: Now our agent can go out and find the leadership and turn them into prospects. And then we've got our ICP Finder, which can go through and actually sort and figure out the ones that are the right ones. And if I want to filter these even better, then I can go in here and I can say, I want the rating. Um, is only, is, uh, is greater than or equal to, let's say 75.

[00:07:16] Amplafy Media: And so that means that we only want people who are. Um, from companies who have a rating of, of at least 75 or higher. And so these are, we just took all of those prospects and we just identified three great companies that now we can, you know, send a more personalized, a more thorough prospecting campaign at.

[00:07:39] Amplafy Media: Um, and we know that these are, are ideal, you know, our ideal clients and so. Uh, one other thing, I guess, just to show you what, what I really enjoy again about Notion is that you can create these agents that sort of work together, and then if we look into, you know, how they work, uh,

[00:07:57] Amplafy Media: And you'll see here that it really just uses a set of instructions but I can just tell the ai, I want an agent that does this and it does a great job of, of spitting that stuff out to me.

[00:08:09] Amplafy Media: , So here's one where we told it what we wanted to do for the ICP Finder. We just said, I want an agent that looks at the companies and determines whether they're an ideal company to prospect to, you know, and then I told them what our ICP was.

[00:08:22] Amplafy Media: It went out and built the agent, you know, it went out and you can see sort of the instructions here. So it put those in there. I gave it a little bit more. Feedback and specifically I told it, you know, I want you to, to have this sort of perspective, I want you to act like go to market pros and, you know, have them come up with the rating.

[00:08:40] Amplafy Media: So that way it's not just creating a rating out of thin air, but it's using, you know, go, go to market, sort of, uh, perspectives and analysis and then, um, you know, a couple of other things and then it's ready to go. And so what's nice is that. These settings are what it uses and notion is great because it can connect to a lot of different things.

[00:09:00] Amplafy Media: It's got op options to go out and search the web, or, you know, be able to edit and create different pages. You can connect it to your emails. I'll, I'll probably show you another, uh, video about how I created one to. Create drafts in my Gmail inbox. I haven't given it total control yet to actually send the emails, but it'll create the drafts.

[00:09:18] Amplafy Media: Then I can go through, approve the drafts and um, and then that way, you know, it's much more secure. But all of this is, uh, is really accessible, you know, and it's done with a couple of prompts. And if you know what to ask, if you know what you want, I think that's step one. And then you know how to ask for it.

[00:09:37] Amplafy Media: And you know how to, how to, how to speak the language of these ais. Then you're gonna get much closer to your result. And then I guess the, the sort of the next step is being able to massage and adjust and go back and forth a little bit with the AI so that it really lands on what it is that you're, you're asking for.

[00:09:53] Amplafy Media: And, uh, and when you do that, um, you know, sky is the limit. So if you've got any questions about any of these things I showed you today, feel free to throw those in the comments. Uh, and if you want some support and help on implementing some of this stuff for your business, feel free to reach out.
