[00:00:00] Clay: I've had to learn how to deal with my own trauma and really look at the things in life that are impacting me and my decision making as a father. For example, I really had to overcome the hurdle of feeling disrespected. If I'm giving you an order, I'm telling you to do something and you ask a question, it's disrespect.
[00:00:15] Clay: I really had to get over that and understand that my kids, they're just trying to get clarification, or they're just trying to understand. But I had to tackle some of my own trauma because I was responding to them from a trauma response. Like, Oh, I'm telling you to do something. And you're asking a question like in the Marine Corps, when you give an order, no one asks questions.
[00:00:34] Clay: They just do. And then I remember my wife having a conversation with me one time. She was like, you are not a Sergeant in the Marine Corps anymore. Your kids get to ask questions and it's not disrespect. Your kids are trying to understand. They're trying to learn. So all father wounds. Are playing a role in how we father now.
[00:00:49] Clay: And guess what? As men, we got to get over that. You need to be a safe place where they can ask the question.
