Eli Gurock schools us up on the new Shopify and YouTube Shopping integration- what it is, how it works, and what this could mean for business owners and digital marketing.

The new integration allows you to upload and sync your Shopify store to YouTube by pinning products next to your videos. Shopify and YouTube announced the integration last July.

As described by YouTube:

“Creators who link their stores can display their products across their channel and benefit from Shopify’s real-time inventory syncing, so that viewers are never disappointed to find a product out of stock. And, for a more seamless shopping experience, creators in the US can enable onsite checkout so that viewers can complete their purchases without leaving YouTube.”

The complete conversation, in order. 5,973 words.

Kasim [00:00:11] Well, you're one of the clients that terrifies me because you know

Kasim [00:00:13] more about Google ads than I do

Kasim [00:00:14] You can now integrate Shopify and YouTube together and put

Kasim [00:00:18] links underneath your video

Kasim [00:00:22] So that sounds really cool, but how do I do that?

Kasim [00:00:24] And there's very, very little information about how to

Kasim [00:00:27] practically set that up and do that

Kasim [00:00:29] So I spent a whole bunch of time at the end of last week, setting it all up,

Kasim [00:00:34] the Shopify and YouTube integration

Kasim [00:00:35] You figured out something and I don't know anybody else who's figured it out yet

Kasim [00:00:38] I don't think

Kasim [00:00:38] These YouTube link, these little stop file links are gonna

Kasim [00:00:42] make me a gajillion dollars

Kasim [00:00:43] But I think that it's important to try to innovate, try to do new things

Kasim [00:00:49] If it doesn't take you too much time, if it doesn't cost you too much

Kasim [00:00:51] money, you never know what is gonna be the thing that's gonna like make a

Kasim [00:00:55] difference or really move the needles

Kasim [00:00:57] And

Kasim [00:01:02] It's cost me the day of the Google news

Kasim [00:01:03] And I'm so excited

Kasim [00:01:04] this is one of the first times actually we've ever had a client on the channel

Kasim [00:01:07] I think it's happened once or twice before

Kasim [00:01:09] but I've got Ellie ack

Kasim [00:01:11] Who's the founder and CEO of magic beans

Kasim [00:01:13] Ellie

Kasim [00:01:13] Thanks for being here

Kasim [00:01:14] Appreciate you

Kasim [00:01:15] I'm actually really excited

Kasim [00:01:16] I'm a huge fan besides being a client

Kasim [00:01:18] Yeah, well, you're one of the clients that terrifies me because you know

Kasim [00:01:21] more about Google ads than I do

Kasim [00:01:23] And so every now and then they come, they sneak through the cracks and I'm

Kasim [00:01:25] just like, oh goodness, my imposter syndrome starts to wave a flag

Kasim [00:01:29] but I just mean that you're a super sophisticated entrepreneur, but you

Kasim [00:01:31] actually know a lot about like the inner workings of, I mean, as evidenced by

Kasim [00:01:34] the fact that we're about to talk about, the Shopify and YouTube integration, if

Kasim [00:01:38] you figured out something and I don't know anybody else who's figured it

Kasim [00:01:41] Well, yeah, like on Wednesday, I got an email from Shopify that good news

Kasim [00:01:46] Now YouTube is connected to Shopify and we have a fairly

Kasim [00:01:50] sizable YouTube following

Kasim [00:01:52] we have over 26 million views on YouTube

Kasim [00:01:55] I review and compare strollers and car seats, IVA

Kasim [00:01:57] My website is mb.com and we sell baby products

Kasim [00:01:59] It's great

Kasim [00:02:00] So, you're not just online, right?

Kasim [00:02:02] You're brick and mortar too in Boston

Kasim [00:02:03] Yeah

Kasim [00:02:03] Yeah

Kasim [00:02:03] We have two brick and mortar stories here in Boston

Kasim [00:02:05] So, yeah, it's really cool

Kasim [00:02:07] And YouTube has been sort of transformative for our business because I

Kasim [00:02:12] Have spent so many years in store teaching consumers, one on one

Kasim [00:02:16] about how to buy the best stroller and car seat to things like that

Kasim [00:02:18] I'm a father of three

Kasim [00:02:19] So I have a lot of expertise around this stuff and YouTube

Kasim [00:02:23] really gave me a platform to share my expertise with the world

Kasim [00:02:26] It's really great

Kasim [00:02:27] But so I get this email on Wednesday morning

Kasim [00:02:29] Surprise

Kasim [00:02:30] You can now integrate Shopify and YouTube together and put

Kasim [00:02:34] links underneath your video

Kasim [00:02:38] So I'm like, that sounds really, really cool, but how do I do that?

Kasim [00:02:41] And there's like very, very little information about how to

Kasim [00:02:44] practically set that up and do that

Kasim [00:02:46] So I spent a whole bunch of time at the end of last week, setting

Kasim [00:02:50] it all up, setting about it

Kasim [00:02:51] And then I told you in like a vulture and I was like, can you

Kasim [00:02:53] teach my people how to do that?

Kasim [00:02:56] Yeah

Kasim [00:02:56] I'm excited, man

Kasim [00:02:57] So, the value proposition's super clear, you have a YouTube channel,

Kasim [00:03:01] and this is organic traffic play

Kasim [00:03:03] I wonder though, and even if it's not available or accessible just yet, I

Kasim [00:03:07] wonder whether or not Google's gonna give us the ability to get a little

Kasim [00:03:09] bit more aggressive with the push from a paid perspective and maybe that's

Kasim [00:03:13] An add on conversation, but at the moment, your YouTube channel allows

Kasim [00:03:16] you to take your GMC push all your products in through the YouTube channel

Kasim [00:03:19] So they're visually accessible

Kasim [00:03:21] Would you mind showing us what you're looking at?

Kasim [00:03:23] do, would I mind show?

Kasim [00:03:24] Yeah

Kasim [00:03:25] I guess what I'm asking is can we pull up the YouTube channel and

Kasim [00:03:27] see the product has been in play?

Kasim [00:03:30] Sure

Kasim [00:03:30] All right

Kasim [00:03:31] I'm gonna share my screen here

Kasim [00:03:33] All right

Kasim [00:03:34] So I'm on the magic beans, YouTube video, 65,000 subscribers, dude

Kasim [00:03:37] That's I forgot you had that many subscribers

Kasim [00:03:39] That's amazing

Kasim [00:03:40] Good for you

Kasim [00:03:42] I'm really excited

Kasim [00:03:43] I'm kind of proud of that

Kasim [00:03:44] I have to admit that's huge

Kasim [00:03:46] you're YouTube famous

Kasim [00:03:47] All right

Kasim [00:03:47] So I can go to any video and in theory, it's gonna push

Kasim [00:03:50] products through, in the exactly

Kasim [00:03:51] So choose that silver cross reef

Kasim [00:03:53] Sounds good

Kasim [00:03:54] And just scroll down a little bit

Kasim [00:03:55] Yep

Kasim [00:03:55] And there you go

Kasim [00:03:56] Look at that silver cross reef Nuna RVA up

Kasim [00:03:59] So those are products that I curated to go under

Kasim [00:04:04] that video

Kasim [00:04:04] Now, if you scroll to the left is the silver cross reef

Kasim [00:04:07] So I was able to curate that under the silver cross reef review, first product

Kasim [00:04:13] show, silver cross reef stroller, and then the upper baby Vista, which is too over

Kasim [00:04:18] I probably need to do a better job curating this particular one, but

Kasim [00:04:20] basically the next three products

Kasim [00:04:23] My sort of like default catalog of products that are gonna be

Kasim [00:04:26] under, any video on the channel

Kasim [00:04:28] So the cool thing is that I don't have to go into every video

Kasim [00:04:33] and, put a carousel of products

Kasim [00:04:36] Basically there's default 30 products go under every video, but if I want

Kasim [00:04:40] to, I can go into the individual videos and there's a monetization tab, in,

Kasim [00:04:45] YouTube studio that you can click on and then you can sort of, I can cur

Kasim [00:04:49] Any product for my entire catalog to go underneath, a video so that people

Kasim [00:04:55] can shop as while they're watching

Kasim [00:04:56] Cuz they hopefully like me and what I'm teaching them

Kasim [00:04:59] And they will reward me by shopping with me versus Amazon, which would be great

Kasim [00:05:03] So cool

Kasim [00:05:04] So on a per video basis, you can choose which products are being shown, but

Kasim [00:05:08] then you can have a default catalog too, and then just front load, the most

Kasim [00:05:12] applicable product, but then modify

Kasim [00:05:15] And then allow the default catalog to kind of follow along as a trail

Kasim [00:05:19] Correct

Kasim [00:05:19] Right

Kasim [00:05:19] I think this is probably designed for YouTube creators who have merch, right?

Kasim [00:05:24] Like a bunch of t-shirts

Kasim [00:05:25] for their channel

Kasim [00:05:26] But I think that for retailers like me that have like a 10,000 products

Kasim [00:05:30] in their catalog, I think this is like an extremely powerful, way of selling

Kasim [00:05:34] The other thing that you can do with this

Kasim [00:05:35] And I think this is what they want to get at is live social selling

Kasim [00:05:39] Now I haven't really tried that yet on YouTube

Kasim [00:05:42] I've tried it a little bit

Kasim [00:05:43] So what happens is you can go live on YouTube obviously, and then you

Kasim [00:05:48] can choose which products to feature

Kasim [00:05:50] In that YouTube live

Kasim [00:05:51] So I think what they want us to start doing is basically create

Kasim [00:05:55] my own individual little QVC type show, where I talk about products

Kasim [00:06:01] And then I sell the products during the event

Kasim [00:06:04] And so my hope is in September to my first sort of like live selling

Kasim [00:06:08] event, hopefully have some sort

Kasim [00:06:11] Offer that I can offer the consumer

Kasim [00:06:12] So if you watch like QVC, I'll have a limited number

Kasim [00:06:15] I have 10 of these strollers available that I'm showing you right now,

Kasim [00:06:19] buy them now click the link right below goes straight to by Shopify

Kasim [00:06:23] store, by, and hopefully that works

Kasim [00:06:26] So I think that would be a really cool thing

Kasim [00:06:27] I know that all of the different social platforms, TikTok and Instagram,

Kasim [00:06:31] they all want this sort of like live

Kasim [00:06:34] Selling situation happening

Kasim [00:06:36] Yeah

Kasim [00:06:37] TikTok has done a really good job at nicheing down into product

Kasim [00:06:40] specific videos with a strong CTA it's so heavily commercial

Kasim [00:06:45] And what's interesting is it didn't, it didn't feel like it compromised the

Kasim [00:06:48] value of the network at all, because they just kind of came out and said,

Kasim [00:06:51] this is effectively what we're doing

Kasim [00:06:53] I love your idea of the QBC model though

Kasim [00:06:56] And then just to real quick, I didn't do a good job at kind of, illustrating

Kasim [00:07:00] this for anybody who's watching

Kasim [00:07:02] When somebody clicks on a product, it opens up in a new tab, which it

Kasim [00:07:07] makes a lot of sense because YouTube doesn't wanna lose the traffic

Kasim [00:07:09] And then in the new tab, it looks like Google is pushing, tracking,

Kasim [00:07:14] but it's not pushing your tracking

Kasim [00:07:15] So you weren't able to add any level of tracking or UTM

Kasim [00:07:19] or any of that stuff, right?

Kasim [00:07:20] like I said, this is like fresh and new

Kasim [00:07:22] but we looked at this on Monday to see, cause I set this up for the

Kasim [00:07:25] weekend, looked at it on Monday

Kasim [00:07:27] There was no evidence that maybe no one's clicked on these links yet, but

Kasim [00:07:31] there's no way an analytics for me to see that a customer came from YouTube

Kasim [00:07:35] Oh, popped up that window

Kasim [00:07:37] And that this was effective

Kasim [00:07:38] So we literally have no way of knowing whether I'm going to

Kasim [00:07:41] make any money from this at all

Kasim [00:07:42] but it's cool

Kasim [00:07:44] Right

Kasim [00:07:44] Google

Kasim [00:07:45] It's cool

Kasim [00:07:45] Yeah

Kasim [00:07:46] Thank you

Kasim [00:07:46] Shopify

Kasim [00:07:47] Google loves to push out stuff

Kasim [00:07:49] That's just so half baked

Kasim [00:07:51] but then they fix it

Kasim [00:07:52] and it actually kind of makes sense

Kasim [00:07:53] I almost appreciate that more than the, oh, this has to be

Kasim [00:07:56] a hundred percent perfect

Kasim [00:07:57] We stroll it out and then nobody likes it

Kasim [00:08:00] so we become part of the R and D process, but, I didn't know

Kasim [00:08:04] This was a thing I wonder is this restricted to Shopify store?

Kasim [00:08:08] Or is Shopify, just the one that made the big mass integration

Kasim [00:08:11] And so it's easier to push in through Shopify cause I'd never seen this

Kasim [00:08:15] This is a partnership with Shopify and Google

Kasim [00:08:17] I think there was some sort of like precursor apps that were doing this type

Kasim [00:08:21] of thing, like in a beta, situation

Kasim [00:08:24] But this is the very little information I see online about this

Kasim [00:08:27] This is like a, both Shopify and Google are very excited about this partnership

Kasim [00:08:31] and it makes sense

Kasim [00:08:32] There are so many Shopify stores out there and creators are gonna like make a shop

Kasim [00:08:35] And

Kasim [00:08:36] again, I think it's pretty easy to sort of curate that stuff

Kasim [00:08:39] It's not great that it limits me to 30 products and that default catalog

Kasim [00:08:43] And, but like you said, it is because say half baked, you say

Kasim [00:08:46] it's a newer product from Google

Kasim [00:08:48] So, as, creators continue sort of using this, hopefully they'll

Kasim [00:08:52] be add, add better tracking

Kasim [00:08:55] Add like better features to make sure that this is effective and that we

Kasim [00:08:58] can sort of really drive extra sales

Kasim [00:09:00] but I think it's pretty neat

Kasim [00:09:01] otherwise the different cards they have in the videos that you put in there to,

Kasim [00:09:05] so you have to like leave the video

Kasim [00:09:07] Click a card, go to the site or put links below, but this is just like

Kasim [00:09:10] a very visual way for people to see that, Hey, oh, I can buy this

Kasim [00:09:13] And also to connect the fact for people like me that not only am

Kasim [00:09:17] I YouTube creator, but I'm also

Kasim [00:09:19] A retailer to really make that connection that, oh, there is his website, right?

Kasim [00:09:23] Like he also has places to buy the stuff that he is talking about

Kasim [00:09:28] Well, and the prioritization of the real estate is pretty substantial, you know?

Kasim [00:09:30] I mean, I can, it almost looks like YouTube's recommended videos

Kasim [00:09:34] so it draws your eye really well

Kasim [00:09:36] that's the only thing that, I'm a paid traffic guy saying this

Kasim [00:09:39] I don't believe in long term

Kasim [00:09:41] heavy reliance on paid traffic

Kasim [00:09:44] I think that it should always be a part of the marketing mix, obviously,

Kasim [00:09:47] but it shouldn't be the core cause on a long enough timeline, it will

Kasim [00:09:51] fail like on a long enough timeline

Kasim [00:09:53] Your paid traffic is you're either gonna have peaks and valleys,

Kasim [00:09:55] Lowell, big competitor steps into the space, hemorrhages money

Kasim [00:09:58] You know what I mean?

Kasim [00:09:59] Like something will go wrong

Kasim [00:10:01] Again, it's counter to my best interest to say that to people

Kasim [00:10:04] But what you've done is brilliant

Kasim [00:10:06] Like you built this amazing audience, 65,000 subscribers

Kasim [00:10:09] How many millions of views did you say?

Kasim [00:10:11] 26 million dude

Kasim [00:10:12] That is so wonder what medicine square garden seats

Kasim [00:10:17] I think 30,000 people, right?

Kasim [00:10:20] I'm just doing my napkin math

Kasim [00:10:22] So you played 867 Madison square gardens

Kasim [00:10:25] You know what I mean?

Kasim [00:10:26] Like we forget the scale of any of digital reach that is so amazing for

Kasim [00:10:31] you, for your business, for your impact

Kasim [00:10:34] But then you have one little teeny tiny widget that, Shopify

Kasim [00:10:37] and YouTube corroborate on

Kasim [00:10:38] And then all of a sudden you start to see like, oh, wow, this

Kasim [00:10:40] is why this is so impactful

Kasim [00:10:42] I just think this is super cool

Kasim [00:10:43] So if you're watching this, take a note from Ellie, you shouldn't always

Kasim [00:10:48] pay for your traffic coming from the pay traffic guy, build a community

Kasim [00:10:51] And the way to build a community by the way to give is to serve

Kasim [00:10:54] And that's what you do with your videos

Kasim [00:10:55] Like these reviews, these product reviews

Kasim [00:10:56] I've watched them, not all of them, but I watched enough of

Kasim [00:10:59] Like you really dive deep

Kasim [00:11:01] I like to think about Dwight shoot in the office when he takes the car seat

Kasim [00:11:04] and he straps to the back of the car

Kasim [00:11:05] I mean, you're not going that far, but like you, you provided an immense

Kasim [00:11:08] amount of value and it's why you've been able to basically establish yourself

Kasim [00:11:11] is the authority, is there anybody else in the space that's even close to you?

Kasim [00:11:15] No

Kasim [00:11:15] not close to me

Kasim [00:11:16] I mean, I think that, I'm like very, very much of obsessed with what I do

Kasim [00:11:21] Yeah

Kasim [00:11:21] I love helping customers figure out baby gear and

Kasim [00:11:26] I've been doing it this so long, being on the sales floor of my store for so many

Kasim [00:11:30] years and the reality is our industry

Kasim [00:11:31] my business grew up with this sort of modern baby, the Dwight products,

Kasim [00:11:36] I've been around for all this stuff

Kasim [00:11:37] So, it's just really cool to be able to share this with so many

Kasim [00:11:39] people from around the world

Kasim [00:11:42] And also, I just wanna say that, solutions a does run, YouTube ads for us, and

Kasim [00:11:49] it's just really been able to amplify the stuff that I'm doing organically

Kasim [00:11:52] If I didn't do all that work organically, if I didn't build the hundreds of videos

Kasim [00:11:55] that I did, it would be, it would really be for nothing like I can understand this

Kasim [00:11:59] for as a direct response moment through YouTube, but I think that for us, That's

Kasim [00:12:03] why, like, I love YouTube advertising so much is because for me, it's the

Kasim [00:12:06] way I'm thinking about is, people are coming into my ecosystem for YouTube

Kasim [00:12:12] Because they saw an ad, which, we take one of our videos using it as an ad

Kasim [00:12:16] They come in and then they see, oh my gosh, this guy really knows his stuff

Kasim [00:12:19] And they're white watching all of my videos and it just like really

Kasim [00:13:02] me below in the comments

Kasim [00:13:02] And now back to your regularly scheduled program

Kasim [00:13:06] Yeah

Kasim [00:13:06] I've had the exact same experience because, if we figure something else

Kasim [00:13:09] on Google, we put on YouTube and if we make a mistake put on YouTube and,

Kasim [00:13:14] and there's something about like the authenticity there to where I think

Kasim [00:13:16] it really resonates with people

Kasim [00:13:18] When did you start your YouTube channel?

Kasim [00:13:19] How long ago?

Kasim [00:13:20] Oh, 10 years ago

Kasim [00:13:21] My kids make fun of me, dude

Kasim [00:13:23] No way

Kasim [00:13:23] You're like an OG

Kasim [00:13:24] I didn't know

Kasim [00:13:25] I was 10 years old

Kasim [00:13:26] Yeah

Kasim [00:13:26] So I did a bugga boost, snack tray

Kasim [00:13:28] Bugo thrill brand

Kasim [00:13:29] I did a little video of a snack tray

Kasim [00:13:31] Sometimes I like walking into my kitchen

Kasim [00:13:32] I'll hear my two older kids like laughing

Kasim [00:13:34] I'm like, Hey kids, why are you laughing?

Kasim [00:13:35] I'll we're watching your bugga boost snack tray video

Kasim [00:13:37] You're so terrible in that first video, your kids are heckling you

Kasim [00:13:40] That's awesome

Kasim [00:13:41] Yeah, they totally heckle me

Kasim [00:13:42] They also think that their dad is a YouTuber, so that's pretty cool

Kasim [00:13:44] So that is pretty

Kasim [00:13:46] I'm looking at your channel right now

Kasim [00:13:48] Oh, I see the bugga boo

Kasim [00:13:49] I see the original video

Kasim [00:13:49] I'm just curious

Kasim [00:13:50] So when did your channel start to take off?

Kasim [00:13:52] At what point was it like?

Kasim [00:13:53] Oh my goodness

Kasim [00:13:53] I mean, 27,000 views that's taken off

Kasim [00:13:55] Yeah

Kasim [00:13:55] So what happened was, I think it was 2015 or 2016

Kasim [00:14:02] I was in one of my stores and I decided to do the best strollers

Kasim [00:14:07] Like, I didn't know how to name anything

Kasim [00:14:09] I didn't know what I was doing

Kasim [00:14:10] I basically gave one of my store employees a phone and I said, Hey, I'm gonna talk

Kasim [00:14:14] about the top five strollers that I

Kasim [00:14:17] And I did the best strollers of 2015 and that just started taking off

Kasim [00:14:22] Oh, the other thing is I did this trade show video about this product called

Kasim [00:14:26] a Duna D O N a, and it was so cool

Kasim [00:14:29] I did this video and then I just watched, like, it got like 500 views and I got

Kasim [00:14:33] super, super excited and I was also keenly aware around the time when, again, I don't

Kasim [00:14:38] exactly remember when YouTube, oh, and now Google, but YouTube, but it was right

Kasim [00:14:43] around the time where I was just being kind of like an SEO person, I thought

Kasim [00:14:48] it was really cool right after Google

Kasim [00:14:50] Like, oh my gosh

Kasim [00:14:52] I'm not ranking for any of these products

Kasim [00:14:53] I'm late to the game in terms of like SEO stuff

Kasim [00:14:56] But if I make a video about a product, that's brilliant

Kasim [00:14:59] Just what Shopify's doing right now

Kasim [00:15:00] they put the stuff on the top right now we just bought YouTube, all

Kasim [00:15:03] the videos on the very, very top of the search engine results page

Kasim [00:15:06] So

Kasim [00:15:06] If I do a review on this product, let me see if I'll be on the

Kasim [00:15:10] top of Google and there it was

Kasim [00:15:11] And then I thought, let me do another one

Kasim [00:15:13] And I just thought it was just fun to have my videos, like leapfrog

Kasim [00:15:18] over everything else on the page

Kasim [00:15:20] And then over time I have this like very immense catalog of videos that people then

Kasim [00:15:27] that it sort of took on a life of its own

Kasim [00:15:29] That's so cool

Kasim [00:15:29] What an immense amount of Forset on your, part too

Kasim [00:15:33] So if you don't mind me asking, if you don't wanna let the cat

Kasim [00:15:35] outta the bag, that's okay

Kasim [00:15:37] What's next?

Kasim [00:15:38] Like, I mean, you seem to be a guy that kind of really sees the lanes

Kasim [00:15:41] Where do you think, where are you investing in other traffic channels,

Kasim [00:15:44] other acquisition opportunities?

Kasim [00:15:46] What other networks do you think have a, a strong future?

Kasim [00:15:49] that is a really good question

Kasim [00:15:52] I think that I would love to see this like live selling thing

Kasim [00:15:57] Be a thing yeah

Kasim [00:15:59] On YouTube or any other channel

Kasim [00:16:01] but I think many entrepreneurs have this problem is like distraction

Kasim [00:16:05] Right?

Kasim [00:16:05] So how many, like you talk about TikTok and of course, and

Kasim [00:16:08] we're on TikTok and I do some

Kasim [00:16:10] Couple of things on TikTok and we've had some good, organic results on TikTok

Kasim [00:16:15] Like I do some like funny things, that still offers value, but, I am just

Kasim [00:16:21] doubling and tripling down on YouTube

Kasim [00:16:23] I can be a lot better

Kasim [00:16:24] I should have 200 million views is reality

Kasim [00:16:27] And I gotta just Keep on optimizing, keep on doing things that are gonna add value

Kasim [00:16:32] But I think that part of the problem for my business is that every day

Kasim [00:16:37] someone's becoming pregnant and every day someone is learning about a

Kasim [00:16:40] stroller for the very, very first time

Kasim [00:16:42] Right

Kasim [00:16:42] So I always need to go back to the fundamentals and like,

Kasim [00:16:47] Hey, this is a stroller

Kasim [00:16:48] Let me teach you all about it

Kasim [00:16:49] I can't believe that

Kasim [00:16:51] So I'm on a, constantly revolving, Wheel to sort of like teach

Kasim [00:16:55] people about this baby gear stuff

Kasim [00:16:56] I'm also feeling anecdotally, I'm not sure if you feel this too, is

Kasim [00:16:59] that the idea that people researching stuff that they need on YouTube

Kasim [00:17:03] is just getting like super, super strong, like stronger than ever

Kasim [00:17:07] It's like, isn't that kind of weird?

Kasim [00:17:08] Cause I've been doing it for two or three years, but it's weird to

Kasim [00:17:10] see like other people catching up and me realizing like, oh, this is

Kasim [00:17:13] actually new to most of the world

Kasim [00:17:15] Exactly

Kasim [00:17:16] So I think that, yeah, two, three years ago, you and I like other people were

Kasim [00:17:18] like going to YouTube for things, or oh, how do I exchange attire go to YouTube?

Kasim [00:17:22] And I learned how to do this, but in terms of really doing their research

Kasim [00:17:26] and having more sophisticated content to teach people about the things that they

Kasim [00:17:31] wanna learn about or wanna shop for

Kasim [00:17:33] I mean, people are like tired of, the amount

Kasim [00:17:35] Have you looked at a Google research, PA re results page recently cost

Kasim [00:17:38] It is like bananas, all of the different things, brain

Kasim [00:17:42] it is a completely train wreck, like Travis different, right?

Kasim [00:17:46] Like how am I supposed to learn anything?

Kasim [00:17:48] Yeah

Kasim [00:17:48] From a Google reserve result

Kasim [00:17:49] Well, so much of it is stolen clicks, Google's pulling in other

Kasim [00:17:53] people's content and then it ends up being a little less interesting

Kasim [00:17:56] It dilutes the relevance and then there's the accordion and

Kasim [00:17:59] the slider and the you're right

Kasim [00:18:01] It's like, it's so

Kasim [00:18:02] Complex

Kasim [00:18:03] And I don't know that I ever said those words out loud until you

Kasim [00:18:05] just solicited that from me, that actually scares me a little bit

Kasim [00:18:09] It's like, man, did Google lose their way?

Kasim [00:18:12] And then it has YouTube

Kasim [00:18:14] That's something they do with, right

Kasim [00:18:15] And then YouTube, it's so simple because you just put in what you're

Kasim [00:18:18] looking for and they're pretty good at their algorithm and tell and

Kasim [00:18:22] serving you the things that you need

Kasim [00:18:24] And I've been home for the past couple of days for any number of reasons

Kasim [00:18:28] and watching a lot of YouTube and they do a really good job at just

Kasim [00:18:31] Keep serving you, the things that you're kind of interested in and I mean, that

Kasim [00:18:34] just like serves us when we do our video

Kasim [00:18:36] So I'm to answer your initial question, I'm still super, super

Kasim [00:18:40] bullish on YouTube and they're gonna continue to create, I'm like I'm

Kasim [00:18:42] creating more videos than ever in two

Kasim [00:18:44] I've created more videos this year in 2022 than I have

Kasim [00:18:47] End of any year so far

Kasim [00:18:49] Let me ask you a question there, cuz you're really good at it

Kasim [00:18:51] There's something about your persona that plays well on YouTube

Kasim [00:18:54] If somebody's not like somebody's watching this and like, Hey this,

Kasim [00:18:57] you know, the camera scares me

Kasim [00:18:58] I'm not photogenic

Kasim [00:18:59] I'm not whatever

Kasim [00:19:00] can that be learned?

Kasim [00:19:01] Should you fight the grain or should you find somebody who is what's your

Kasim [00:19:04] I think that it really depends on where the expertise lies, I watch

Kasim [00:19:08] YouTube videos and the people are like, have no charism whatsoever,

Kasim [00:19:11] but I find the stuff super, super interesting, because they were extreme

Kasim [00:19:14] Experts at what they do

Kasim [00:19:16] So, the first thing I would say is that if you watch my mugabo snack

Kasim [00:19:21] tray video in 2012, you'll see that it did not start off all razzled dazzle

Kasim [00:19:26] By the way, razzled dazzle sort of gets developed over time and you learn

Kasim [00:19:30] And, I think that if you have any charisma at all, and then you also

Kasim [00:19:37] have the expertise to go with it, then you should really give it a

Kasim [00:19:41] shot and, have good sound, have good lighting, all those real fundamentals,

Kasim [00:19:45] don't mess around with that stuff

Kasim [00:19:47] But I think that, you can do it, but you I've heard you say this, window

Kasim [00:19:51] with this channel is the problem is you

Kasim [00:19:54] You're starting from like way behind mm-hmm like, there are other

Kasim [00:19:58] competitors in my space who, who are trying to do what we do, but we

Kasim [00:20:02] are like, so, so, so, so far ahead

Kasim [00:20:05] Yeah

Kasim [00:20:05] you got your 10,000 hours in, you're the authority

Kasim [00:20:07] Exactly

Kasim [00:20:08] Yeah

Kasim [00:20:08] Right

Kasim [00:20:08] and YouTube knows that and people know that our videos

Kasim [00:20:12] And I've heard this from hundreds of customers over the years, they get

Kasim [00:20:16] sucked into our vortex of videos and they just keep watching the videos

Kasim [00:20:20] And I finish my car seats, let's go into strollers

Kasim [00:20:22] Let's go on the baby cares

Kasim [00:20:23] Let's go to all the other things

Kasim [00:20:24] So I think you need to have that, vast catalog of videos and you have to

Kasim [00:20:29] sort of really, really commit to it

Kasim [00:20:31] that's probably true with like anything, but you really have to commit to doing

Kasim [00:20:35] I don't know if you have to do 10,000 hours, but you used to

Kasim [00:20:37] do a serious catalog of work in order for it to sort of take off

Kasim [00:20:45] And yeah, like I don't, you did a hundred videos for us

Kasim [00:20:47] and my mentor is a guy named Lu there

Kasim [00:20:49] He's got a YouTube channel also on Google ads

Kasim [00:20:51] If you're watching, you should go follow his there

Kasim [00:20:52] He's brilliant

Kasim [00:20:53] And he goes, you have to do a video every day for 90

Kasim [00:20:56] And it was weird cuz as soon as I did that, all of a sudden, we're getting

Kasim [00:20:58] like four views, 12 views, 15 view

Kasim [00:21:00] And then all of the sudden it was like three interviews

Kasim [00:21:02] And I think as soon as we had about a hundred videos, YouTube

Kasim [00:21:04] was like, okay, we trust you

Kasim [00:21:05] There's there's a case

Kasim [00:21:06] There's a repository of content

Kasim [00:21:08] And now people are going to

Kasim [00:21:10] Dive down the rabbit holes

Kasim [00:21:11] So it's exactly what you're saying

Kasim [00:21:12] It's been my experience too

Kasim [00:21:13] Yeah

Kasim [00:21:14] But you're also like really good at what you do

Kasim [00:21:16] And you have things to say

Kasim [00:21:18] Yeah

Kasim [00:21:18] Ellie, you're such a generous thought leader, man

Kasim [00:21:21] Thank you for sharing

Kasim [00:21:22] I don't know that a lot of people share all the secret sauce, but the fact that

Kasim [00:21:25] you did makes me super grateful, love the product inclusion on the videos

Kasim [00:21:29] I'm definitely gonna start recommending that to everybody

Kasim [00:21:31] with the YouTube channel

Kasim [00:21:32] And more than that, I'm gonna recommend that everybody

Kasim [00:21:34] goes and builds a community

Kasim [00:21:35] Like go have a well from which you can draw

Kasim [00:21:38] Even when you know, if paid is down, you have somewhere else to,

Kasim [00:21:41] you have somewhere else to travel

Kasim [00:21:43] I bull those conversations is a bad habit

Kasim [00:21:44] So I'll say last words to you

Kasim [00:21:46] Anything else that you wanna say or offer to our Watchers listeners?

Kasim [00:21:50] yeah, I think that, read, I think that, this was a new, product that sort of

Kasim [00:21:56] Shopify released and I got an email and, nod, everything is gonna pan out

Kasim [00:22:03] I don't think

Kasim [00:22:04] These YouTube link

Kasim [00:22:05] These little stop by links are gonna like, make me a gajillion dollars

Kasim [00:22:09] But I think that it's important to try to innovate, try to do new things

Kasim [00:22:14] If it doesn't take you too much time, if it doesn't cost you too much money,

Kasim [00:22:17] like you never know what is gonna be the thing that's gonna like make a

Kasim [00:22:22] difference or really move the needle

Kasim [00:22:23] So I guess my recommendation is to like try lots of things and and over time, it

Kasim [00:22:30] may like help you be like more success

Kasim [00:22:32] Yeah, you start to crack the code Kaizen

Kasim [00:22:35] That's awesome

Kasim [00:22:36] you gotta go to mbs.com to check out Ellie

Kasim [00:22:38] If you're in Boston, go check out two of the brick and mortar stores

Kasim [00:22:41] I'll make sure to include links to the website, the YouTube channel,

Kasim [00:22:44] in the description of this video, Ellie, super grateful to you, man

Kasim [00:22:48] thank you for being here

Kasim [00:22:49] Thanks

Kasim [00:22:50] Awesome

Kasim [00:22:50] This was fun

Kasim [00:22:51] Awesome

Kasim [00:22:51] And we shoot a video every day, like come and subscribe

Kasim [00:22:53] You know how your YouTube works
